Upcoming project

I thought I would post this here since in searching the web, it seems noone else has done this before.

Migrate an existing installation of windows to a boot camp partition.

Yup, I ordered a macbook pro. Should be here sometime next week or so.

And I intend to migrate my existing vista ultimate pc to a partition on the mbp.

Here is what I think is a process that will work:

> Take full backup of windows machine (done).
> Partition MBP and setup Boot Camp.
> Restore Vista image from CD + external drive.
> Boot into vista.
> Clean up vista installation and drivers for new machine..
> Install Parallels.
> Migrate firefox/thunderbird profiles to mac
> Strip the windows installation of software that will be installed natively on the mac (office 2008 for ex)

I had originally planned to do a clean install and then restore the backup, but in reading more on vista ultimates backup and restore, it looks like you can restore the image from the boot cd/dvd.

Here's hoping that vista handles things like video drivers and such correctly in terms of restoring to different hardware.

:)

More to follow...
